Domestic Violence is defined as a pattern of willful intimidation, assault, battery, sexual assault or other abusive behavior perpetrated by a family member, household member or intimate partner against another for the purpose of power and control.
Although domestic violence is an issue women across the world face, statistics have shown that Native American women will suffer from domestic violence at a much higher rate than any other ethnic group.
Based on statistical studies, two out of five Native American women will experience a form of domestic violence and one out of three will fall victim of rape during their lifetime. Studies have also shown that approximately 88% of these crimes are committed by a non-Native American partner.
